Racing

This weekend No. 48 Lowe’s Chevrolet will be doing its best Johnny Cash impersonation as it wears black for the first time this year. The Kobalt Tools scheme has been a staple of Team Lowe’s Racing since 2005, and is a regular in the winner’s circle.

Kobalt made its debut in the 2005 Busch Series Aaron’s 312 at Atlanta Motor Speedway on March 19th, where Jimmie qualified and finished in the third position.Image title

The 2007 Kobalt Tools 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway on March 18 was the maiden voyage for Kobalt Tools in the Cup Series. Jimmie started third, led 135 laps on the day, and in a thrilling finish he out-dueled Tony Stewart to grab the win.

One of the most special moments of Jimmie Johnson’s career was winning the 2012 Southern 500 and giving Mr. Hendrick his 200th win. He just so happened to do it in a one-off for 2012 flat black Kobalt ride.Image title

In total, the Kobalt Chevrolet has taken the green flag in 89 races, 79 of which have been in the Cup Series, where Jimmie has wheeled the car to victory lane 14 times.Image title

In 2015 Kobalt returned to flat black, which it will wear in it's 2017 iteration in Sunday's Kobalt 400 at Las Vegas. Tune in to FOX at 3:30 PM ET and see if JJ can wheel the Kobalt car to victory lane for the fifteenth time!
