2016 Star of the Year Award Recipient
As the longest paired driver-crew chief combo in NASCAR (dating back to late 2001), Jimmie Johnson and Chad Knaus have a strong bond and friendship that has evolved through wins, losses and the ever famous “milk and cookies” meeting with Mr. Hendrick.
Their support of each other has stood the test of time and in no place is that more evident than the Jimmie Johnson Foundation. Ever since Jimmie and wife Chandra started the Jimmie Johnson Foundation back in 2006, Chad has been there supporting their efforts to give funds to K-12 public education. Recognized as one of the best to ever work from atop a pit box, our own Team Lowe’s “head coach” has shown his huge heart as a friend to the JJF for the past 10 years.
Last week, Chad was announced as the 2016 Jimmie Johnson Foundation Star of the Year Award recipient in recognition for his contribution and support to the Foundation throughout its first decade. Chad was unable to attend the Foundation’s Annual Golf Tournament and Charity Auction and Dinner where the award was announced, however a video was taped as Johnson surprised Knaus and presented him with the Award.
While his accolades continue to roll in from on-track victories, he is lauded as an invaluable member of Team Lowe’s Racing. He is considered as much to the Jimmie Johnson Foundation and are grateful for his contributions the past 10 years.
Thanks, Chad. We’ll let you get back to work now.
