Dinner, Golf, a Concert, a Race Helmet, an Award, and $730,000 for Charity
Last night in La Jolla, California, the Jimmie Johnson Foundation hosted a dinner to kick off their annual charity golf tournament, again presented by Lowe’s. This year, Chandra and Jimmie Johnson are celebrating their foundation’s tenth year. For the third consecutive year, the event is being held at Torrey Pines, Southern California’s most iconic golf course, just outside of Jimmie’s stomping grounds in San Diego.
This year’s Blue Bunny Helmet of Hope was revealed and auctioned off to benefit the Foundation, which focuses its support on K-12 public education. The helmet, which is to be raced at Watkins Glen in August, will be signed and personalized by Johnson and delivered to the winning bidder after the race, hopefully with winning credentials! Other various items and experiences graciously donated by event sponsors brought big money as always for the Foundation. All told, the auction and the event raised over $730,000!
Chart topping band O.A.R. performed for the 200 guests, which included friends of the Foundation, ranging from on and off track partners to friends and guests of the Johnson family.
One of the highlights of the evening was a video, where Team Lowe’s crew chief Chad Knaus was presented with the Jimmie Johnson Foundation Star of the Year award.
