Talladega Superspeedway

A reconstruction project that began in 1988 turned an uninspiring, mediocre racetrack into a speedway that epitomizes the best NASCAR has to offer. Richmond became NASCAR's only three-quarter-mile track, with comfortable banking, wide racing area and seating for more than 100,000. Lights were added in 1991, and dating to 1999, both of the seasons races have been run on Saturday nights. After the second NASCAR Winston Cup race in 2003, the track's surface was removed, and new pavement was put down after a drainage system was installed. More than 1,400 seats were added, and a new owner/driver motorhome compound was built.
