Texas Motor Speedway

One of the ultramodern facilities on the Nextel Cup circuit, Texas Motor Speedway has had its share of problems with the racing surface, beginning with its first Cup race in 1997. Thirteen cars crashed on the first lap. The next year, water seepage hampered practice and qualifying. So, the track's draining system was reconstructed, and changes were made to the entrances and exits of the turns that made the transition easier from the low groove to the high groove and vice versa. Before the 2002 race, the track was repaved.
